LANGUAGES (OTHER THAN ENGLISH)
At Donburn Primary School, students from Foundation to Year 6 attend a 40 minute Mandarin lesson per week. Studying a language other than English provides students with the knowledge understanding and skills to communicate in another language and to understand and value other cultures.
In addition to weekly Mandarin lessons, students use Mandarin daily for classroom routines and social interactions.
In order to develop intercultural capabilities, students are provided with opportunities to engage with members of the Chinese community. This assists students to develop the necessary knowledge, understandings and skills to demonstrate an awareness of and respect for cultural diversity within the community.
